Commemorating “America250 Babies”

In 1976, the library collected the names of babies born that year to families in our district. The “Bicentennial Babies” plaque listing the babies’ names still hangs in the library today.

We’d like to replicate this project with the names of babies born in 2026. This is an interesting piece of community history to collect for the future. If you are willing to have your child’s name displayed on a new plaque, please submit the online form or visit any library service desk. Forms will be available from January 2, 2026 to January 15, 2027. Submissions are limited to babies born to families who currently live in the Longwood library district, and whose birthdays range from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026.

Borrowing Guidelines

Valid Adult Longwood Public Library Card in good standing.
A maximum of three items from this collection may be borrowed at a time.
Equipment & Gadgets are available at the Adult Reference Desk and must be returned to the Circulation Desk. Gadgets placed on hold may be checked out at the Circulation Desk when ready for pickup. Equipment & Gadgets may not be returned to the book drop.
If any item is lost or damaged, the full value of the item will be charged to the patron account.
The library has a limited number of items in the collection; if the item comes back late or is lost, the library may not be able to honor reservations.
The use of some items may require precertification or training; if there are any precertification requirements, there will be a link in the item description to the required training.

The library is closed all day Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Wednesday, December 24 and Thursday, December 25.
