Program Description

Event Description

Join nature guide Lee McAllister on a walk through the Rocky Point Pine Barrens to visit Radio Central, where the first Trans-Atlantic telephone message was sent linking London and New York.  Learn about America’s history while taking in the wonders of our local surroundings.  The walk is about 2 miles, it should take about 1.5 hours.  We will meet on Rocky Point Yaphank Road (route 21) about 1.5 miles north of Whiskey Road. Look for two signs: 1 small sign that says 'Rocky Point Natural Resource Management Area' and a large sign next to it with a wooden border and photos on it that says 'RCA Radio Communications Inc. 1921-1975.'    Please arrive 15 minutes early so we can start the walk promptly.  Please note this trail is not stroller friendly.
