Join us on a 2.5 mile hike at the Rocky Point Natural Resource Management Area with Lee McAllister, naturalist, photographer and author of Hiking Long Island. Admire the landscape and see the historic site of Radio Central, where the first trans-Atlantic wireless message was sent, as well as some of the towers and vestiges of that era. Weather permitting.

Details to know before you go:

  • We will meet at the yellow and brown sign for Rocky Point Natural Resource Management site located on the east side of Rocky Point-Yaphank Road, 1.5 miles north of Whiskey Road and 1.1 miles south of 25A. (You must provide your own transportation.)
  • Be prepared to walk 2.5 miles.
  • Be prepared for the weather and ticks! Dress warmly in layers, wear long pants, hat,  etc. For tips on taking precaution against ticks click here.
  • Bring your own drinking water, cameras, binoculars and whatever else you might need or want.
