Program Description

Event Description

On Labor Day weekend in 1951, the Fishing Vessel Pelican capsized about a mile from the Montauk Point Lighthouse killing 45 of the 64 people on board. Learn about this local tragedy, the effects on the community and the safety regulation changes that were made. We will also screen a 15-minute documentary about the creation of a permanent memorial at the Montauk Point Lighthouse in this presentation by the Montauk Historical Society.
