World War II Long Island : the Homefront in Nassau and Suffolk

From the ashes of failed Nazi Spy rings to the greatest industrial boom, Long Island was transformed from a collective group of rural communities to modern-day suburbia. During the war, Long Island would hold the record on producing the most fighter planes for combat operations and be a home to five World War II Medal of Honor recipients. The close of the war, Long Island will further encapsulate the role of global citizens in hosting the first United Nations in Lake Success. While providing a scenic backdrop for the United Nations, Long Island will become the global stage for the events that started the Cold War. In the lecture author, Christopher Verga will revisit this history in an interactive lecture utilizing historic photos and documents from Long Islands’ bygone era.
