Although especially great for arthritis, Tai Chi for Arthritis is an evidence-based falls prevention program that uses the principles and movements of Tai Chi in helping older adults improve their balance and increase their confidence in doing everyday activities. Tai Chi classes are led by a trained and certified instructor, the class meets twice a week, 60-minute sessions, for 8 weeks. This session meets from 10:30am – 11:30am on Mondays and Wednesdays 6/22-8/12. Participants should be committed to attending all 16 classes. Attendance at “Session 0” on 6/15 at 10:30am is mandatory for participation due to safety reasons. This program is offered through Stony Brook Trauma Center on behalf of the NYS Department of Health Older Adult Fall Prevention Program.
