Review:

Pip needs to do a capstone project for her senior year in high school. She decides to look at a closed case from five years ago. The Andie Bell case. Five years ago, pretty and popular Andie Bell was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend Sal, who then killed himself. But Pip doesn’t believe that. She thinks that Sal is innocent. Pip starts interviewing people who were close to Andie and Sal. She interviews Andie’s friends and Sal’s friends. While interviewing them, she finds out some information about Andie that might help her add to her list of suspects. She goes on to interview Ravi, Sal’s older brother. Ravi’s family has been broken ever since Sal died so when Pip comes to interview him, he keeps it short, but Pip doesn’t give up. In a couple weeks, she has a partner for this investigation. Along this investigation, Pip and Ravi uncover some dark secrets that could prove Sal’s innocence. But, someone in Fairview knows that Pip is digging too far into this investigation and that they’re going to get caught, so now her own life might be in danger.

This nail-biting mystery is perfect for anyone who loves to solve mysteries or anyone who wants to read a book that they won’t be able to put down. Author, Holly Jackson, combines a story of friendship with a mystery to create Pip’s story. Through the ups and downs of her investigation, Pip discovers dark secrets about her town and the people she thought she could trust. As she puts the pieces together and fills in the missing information, she discovers something that could change not just her life but also the people around her. While the characters may appeal to middle schoolers, the topics involved are more for teenagers. While juggling the stress of being in school and being a teenager, many teens can connect with the stress that Pip goes through throughout this story.
